Is there any information on exactly how many people in India pay any kind of income tax? Am told its less than 4%, but had a big argument with a shining Indian who thinks at least 10% Indians must be paying tax, which I seriously doubt.

Would you have any data on this? It would be nice to show to all the shining Indians that only a very few percentage of Indians fall in the tax payable bracket.

It would be also nice to know how many people in India are totally employed by central or state governments. I guess this too is around 4 % or so.

Thank you for the excellent website.
